My biggest fear? Looking like I’ve no idea what I’m doing.
One of the things I’ve really appreciated about Banks O’ Dee Sports & Fitness in Aberdeen is that you’re not just given access to the gym and left to figure everything out yourself.
Members can book a range of free support sessions, depending on what they actually need, including inductions, fitness testing and a free six-week personalised programme.
For me, that meant sitting down with one of the team to talk through my goals, checking things like weight, body fat, balance and flexibility, and then heading onto the gym floor to learn the machines and exercises that would actually help me get there.
That made such a difference to my confidence.
Because joining a gym is one thing.
Actually knowing what you’re doing when you walk in is another.
I also really like that the support is flexible, you can use what helps you, leave what you don’t need, and keep checking in as you progress.
For someone who has always worried about looking clueless in the gym, that’s a massive perk.

AD | In Partnership With @banksodeefitnessclub People always ask me the same question…
“How are you nae massive?”
The truth is, social media only shows one side of my week.
You see the cafés, the restaurants and the bakeries. What you don’t usually see is the gym that helps me keep that balance.
Banks o’ Dee Fitness is part of the wider Banks o’ Dee community club, a not-for-profit organisation that’s been supporting local sport and the community for years. Whether you’re starting your fitness journey, getting back into it or already have a routine, it’s a welcoming place to train.
If you’ve ever wondered how I balance eating my way around Aberdeen with everything else… now you know.
Have you ever been to Banks o’ Dee Fitness, or are you thinking about giving it a try?
